We can see most of the champions that are banned in the ranked/draft-pick matches due tone main reason. This is based on lot of factors that affect the banning.
- When champion is a threat to a champion you pick (Go through counter picks for your champion)
- When a champion is over powered (due to the buffs from the latest patch to the champion or one of his favorite items)
- Due to some ability that the champion has
Here I am NOT going to talk about the first two points because above two point can change from game to game, from time to time. Nevertheless, it is needed to understand that actually first two points contribute more towards the decision process.
Shen – His ultimate
It is hard to gank someone when Shen is there with his ultimate up. This is due to his global map presence. His global map presence becomes an issue in most of the occasions. In most games, Shen can split push because it is very hard to gank him with this high defense (dash, and shield). If team needs him while, he is pushing a lane he can use his ultimate to arrive at the heart of that team fight (protecting most valuable member, which is the targeted by the enemy team).
Caitlyn – Early game poke/ long range
It is hard to live with the early game poke of Caitlyn; she has long basic attack range (If I remember correct it is the maximum basic attack range without using any ability) and she has a long range Q that do a good damage. This allows Caitlyn to be a big threat in the early game and if she got fed same threat will be there in the whole game.
Kassadin – Ultimate and crazy damage from Q
This happens mostly when you play with the conventional mid player with small health bar, Kassadin can zone them out very easily. In addition, his ultimate is like a long flash with extremely low CD and a damage component. We know how helpful the flash is, So Kassadin ultimate lets him multiply that usefulness in a big factor. Nicely played Kassadin is very hard to kill/gank.
Zed – his W
Only reason I can think on zed is the with his passive from his W he gets lot of AD freely so we can reach 300 AD very quickly and the W let him gap close and escape ganks.
Ahri – Ultimate
Extremely hard to gank once she hits 6. She has 3 flashes either to move in or move out. Her CC and high damage is taken in to account too.
Fizz – His E+ High damage
As you can see, people ban champions with high burst damage with an ability that make him un-gankable. For fizz with Lich bane can do high damage burst. At the same time, he can use his E to get away from the fight/gank safely.
Thresh – The full package of support
He has most of the qualities that a support need. Let us see what he can do as a support. He can tank well, He got a great CC with his ultimate and it is hard to dodge his hook. At the same time, He shields the teammate until he fights and gives him a way to get out of the fight by clicking his lantern. Only missing thing is health and mana supply (as Soraka) which you can easily fulfill by your summoner spells (not recommending you to do that). As you can see, Thresh is the ultimate support.
Corki – Ultimate (Trinity)
Corki has a great poke with his ultimate and have nice gap closer with his W. Even I am not talking about items and their buffs, I have to mention that resent buff in trinity has been a great factor making Corki strong.
Elise – Her Q
Elise is great against almost all top laners and junglers due to the damage done by her Q are based on the missing/current health. This makes her anti-tank even without lot of items. In rank matches most players build health to improve sustainability (even ADCs) where Elise is banned.
